LETTER OF THE DAY - Are judges legally 'servants of the people'?
The Editor, Sir: The response of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, A.J. Nicholson, to comments made by Supreme Court Judge Almarie Sinclair-Haynes on arrangements made for her accommodation whilst presiding at the Westmoreland Circuit is instructive.

A monument to slavery?

The Editor, Sir: It is with sadness that I read Martin Henry's column "Kingston Harbour: Green space and slavery memorial" which appeared in The Gleaner on May 17. Why should we create a monument to slavery? What is so uplifting about slavery or the slave trade...

Contrary view on Rastas

The Editor, Sir: For a second, I thought I had managed to inadvertently source The Gleaner's Archives dating back to something written in 1955, when I read Dr. Wendel Abel's piece, "I am What I think - When Your Child Becomes a Rasta".

Searching for family

The Editor, Sir: A baby boy was left in the street at 64 Henderson Avenue in St. Andrew in 1970. He was found and named John Brown by Children Services. They estimated his age to be about 18 months and he was then taken to the Maxfield Park Children's Home.

Port Royal's potential

The Editor, Sir: I was heartened to hear the Mayor of Kingston in a speech recently in Boston, Massachusetts, urging Jamaicans in the diaspora to be part of an overall plan with the Government for the development of Port Royal as a main tourist drawing card...
