The Editor, Sir: Many years ago the Cockpit Country provided refuge for persons trying to escape slavery imposed on them by foreigners. Fast-forward to present day 2006, and it is now the Cockpit Country which needs refuge from invading foreigners.

Slap in the face
The Editor, Sir: That the new Caribbean Airlines will not be flying to Jamaica, must be a slap in the face of Caribbean and Jamaican travellers. And that we should be learning this in the peak of the holidays is certainly not funny.
Just not enough
The Editor, Sir: I have noted with great interest Professor Nettleford's statement on the recent apology for slavery by British Prime Minister Tony Blair. And I am pleased that it has evoked at least one reaction.
Nothing to boast about
The Editor, Sir: I do not believe that the current administration is in a position to boast about what is nothing more than a marginal reduction in unemployment and a marginal increase in gross domestic product.
