It seemed a bit chaotic and dis-organised, but the children holding their gifts basked in happiness and appeared overly excited.

"It feels good," said Janel Hunter from Jones Town as she sat smiling with presents under her left arm.

The Christmas treat was planned for 400 children ages five to 12 years, who were given tickets on Sunday.

However, more than 500 children and adults showed up at the treat held by the Missionaries of the Poor at the Kingston Technical High School on Hanover Street in downtown Kingston.

Brother Leo Minj, while admitting the treat was not going as initially planned, said "those who didn't have tickets were given food and drink."

Bringing joy

Minj stated humbly that the treat was "just to make them (the children) happy, as the Lord is coming".

He added that the event was held to bring joy and share gifts with the children in the area.

The treat kicked off at 10 a.m. yesterday with songs, games, dancing and other activities after which the children were treated to juice, sandwiches and chicken.

Persons present were also given gifts of teddy bears, trucks, balls, pens, books, and other items.

Minj noted that Missionaries of the Poor would today continue to make the Christmas a bit brighter for those children in and around the High Holborn area.
