Tivoli gardens are the Digicel Premier League (DPL) first End-of-Round final champions after getting the better of St Georges 2-0 last night at the National Stadium.

The keenly contested encounter saw strike partners Navion Boyd and Keammar Daley getting the all-important goals. After a tame start to the proceedings by both teams, Tivoli's captain Boyd sent his 29th-minute penalty crashing into the back of the net to the right of goalkeeper Randal Huie after a debatable handball call by referee Raymond Bogle.

As the half progressed, the four-time league champions began to assert themselves in the game, easily dominating a nervous looking St Georges outfit that lacked ideas in the final third.

Tivoli's Owen Powell squandered a glorious opportunity midway the first half after left-sided player Jameel Thompson carved out the straight-forward chance with some enterprising play.

Serious chance

Despite playing second-fiddle for large spells, the Portlanders did manage to register a serious chance before the half-time whistle, but hit man Damion Harwood's header came crashing off the crossbar after eluding the advancing Edsel Scott in Tivoli's goal.

St Georges started far more lively in the second half and at one point seemed to set up camp in Tivoli's half with a string of unrelenting attacks. They were denied a goal in the 56 minute when Harwood's diving header was ruled out for offside. Minutes later, they were denied a penalty when the increasingly involved Harwood lost his footing inside the penalty box.

They continued to create chances as Tivoli Gardens adopted a counter-attacking approach. Daley ended the contest in the 88th minute with a delectable lob after finding himself behind the defensive line.

Horace Sharpe almost added goal another in injury time but in the end, the two goals were enough to assure that the defending league Champions claimed their first piece of silverware for the season and the $250,000 cash prize. St Georges walked away with a $150,000 cash prize.
