ST ANN's BAY, ST ANN:

The St Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners has been renamed Noranda Bauxite Limited, effective September 24, 2009.

The name-change was as a result of the acquisition by Noranda Aluminium of shares previously held by Century Aluminium, which gave the company 49 per cent shares in the company along with management responsibility.

In a newspaper advertisement, Noranda advised the public of the name change, adding other details of the company remained the same.

At the beginning of September the bauxite company disclosed that with the acquisition of shares by Noranda, production would be boosted by some 25 per cent, beginning in three months.

This meant export figures would move to 4.2 million tonnes, up from the original target of 3.1 million.

President of the company Larry Holley disclosed then that 110 loads of bauxite would be shipped from the Discovery Bay port over the next 12 months.

As a result of the revised production target, a full work schedule of 40 hours per week for the 580 workers, was resumed at the company.
