Dibbs, Foster win Manchester Open titles

Former national champion Joseph Dibbs and Yvonne Foster won the Manchester Parish Table Tennis Open Championships last Saturday at Manchester High School.

Dibbs defeated national representative Kane Watson 13-11, 13-11, 8-11, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4, (4-2) to secure his first hold on the trophy.

Foster, the reigning national women's champion, stopped Shenique Clare 11-8, 16-14, 12-10 (3-0) to win her third straight Manchester Open title.

On their way to the final, Foster stopped Andrea Wadsworth 3-1 and Clare trounced Kristen McKenzie 3-0, while Dibbs eased past Paulton Madden 4-0 and Watson ousted Kareem Flowers 4-2.

Madden and Rui Cao won the Manchester male and female parish titles, respectively. In the male final, Madden defeated Robert Thaxter 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 (3-0), while the 18-year-old Cao overpowered Camille Hoskins 11-1, 11-2, 11-4 (3-0) in the women's equivalent.

In other finals, Peter Kavanaugh clipped brother Everette Kavanaugh 3-2 to retain his over-40 title; Peter Fearon captured the over-50 trophy by defeating Justin Allen 3-2; Robert Lee beat Thaxter 3-1 to win the men's division trophy; Mark Ricketts won the C equivalent when he stopped Nicholas Mahfood 3-1, while Cao crushed Vanessa Moo Young 3-0 to win the women's B Division crown.

Belair High's Rij Findlay was the lone triple winner of the championships, topping the boy's Under-15, Under-18 and Under-21 Parish titles. Findlay defeated Kahlil Little 3-1 to win the Under-21 crown. He then stopped Johnathan Smith 3-1 in the Under-15 final, then won his third trophy by edging Jaymeon Jones 3-2 in the Under-15 final.
