Habibi Latino: Fusion of Latin and Mediterranean

Published: Thursday | October 8, 2009

As one of the first restaurants to make the Market Place courtyard their home, Habibi Latino has long established itself as one of the preferred ethnic dining spots in the Corporate Area. Its union of Mediterranean and Latin cuisine has found favour with Jamaican diners who enjoy the marriage of the two exotic cuisines in a relaxed setting.

For their fourth year participating in the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week, Habibi Latino will again present the most tantalising Middle Eastern and Latin cuisine at bargain prices such that Jamaicans from all walks of life may enjoy their offerings. "We wish for all Jamaicans to enjoy quality food in a nice ambience," explains owner, Abdul Elkhalili.

Prices are a draw for many customers who dine there, but it is the tasty dishes that keep them returning. The menu is also attractive for its health value since "Jamaicans are becoming quite health-conscious," says Elkhalili. "The Habibi Latino menu accommodates healthy lifestyle with a selection of grilled dishes, peas and bean dishes and salads, making it a great spot for vegetarians too," he adds.

Habibi Latino has also gained traction with the young party-going crowd, many who were introduced to the food through their participation in the food court of popular party series, Osmosis. Otherwise, Habibi Latino is a great locale for just about anyone who wishes to travel to the Middle East via their taste buds. Dress code is semi-formal.
