Cocoro, Mayfair Hotel: Dispelling the sushi myth

Published: Thursday | October 8, 2009

An assortment of fragrances fill the air at Cocoro from the subtle whiff of sesame oil to freshly brewed tea. The restaurant, which opened in July 2006, offers Japanese cuisine, with sushi as its speciality.

Manager Taka Sawada says the objective is to tickle the taste buds with Japanese cuisine and introduce customers to the range and variety of dishes.

The restaurant changes its menu in October of every year, and is now in the process of doing so. They will introduce some exciting dishes to tickle the palate of diners.

Cocoro offers dining experience al fresco and a relaxed ambience on the veranda or in the dining room. There is no special dress code, Sawada informs.

He says during the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week, he wants diners to try sushi, and dispel the myth that it is all about 'raw fish'. He is inviting them to have tempura, which are Japanese noodles.

"I would also want sushi lovers to try out our restaurant and experience the food," he says.
