With a month remaining before the 2009 go-kart season concludes, the country's top karters will be gunning for vital points to cement their hold on the class titles at stake.

The penultimate race meet is scheduled for Sunday at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.

Qualifying for pole positions begins at 9 a.m. and though some of the competitors are attending school overseas, there is still an intense battle for the major awards.

According to the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) points standing, the promising Joshua Sirgany, who was again impressive on the Miami circuit last weekend, leads the 80cc Class on 130 points, 10 more than his nearest rival Richard Lechler.

Joshua's cousin, Justin Sirgany, occupies third on 109 points.

Thomas Issa, who was very outstanding at this year's United States Rotax Grand National, is out front on 130 points in the Rotax Mini-max Class, followed by William Myers with 100 points. Fraser McConnell is 14 points behind in third.

Interesting competition

The Rotax Junior Class is where all eyes are focused. Although he attends school overseas, Justin Wong leads the class on 118.5 points. Matthew Williams, who is looking to make a strong move on Sunday, is second on 116, while Philip Myers is third with 101 points.

What makes the competition even more interesting is that both Wong and Myers will not be competing for the rest of the year, so the battle is now between Williams, fourth-place Samantha Summerbell (85 points) and Colin Daley Jr (68 points).

Sheldon Gordon, with 127 points, is a mere point ahead of Mario Mair in the Masters Class, but Mair is overseas at school.

Meanwhile, it is not certain if Gordon will be contesting the final meet on November 15.

There is now an intense battle for third between Dr Mark Minott, Garth Genus and Ricardo Walters.

The positions in the Shifter Class are unlikely to be changed for the remainder of the season. Currently, Peter Moodie Jr leads on 98 points, followed by Chris Myers, 95, and Martin Anderson , 92.
