Cornwall College's (CC) triple-time pole vault champion George 'Timoshenko' Thomas, football coach Dr Dean Weatherly, Carlton Chin and sports enthusiast Patrick 'Tizzy' Reid were honoured by their peers on Saturday, September 19.

At a dinner, organised by the Montego Bay chapter of the CC Old Boys' Association at The Wexford Hotel in Montego Bay, the four were showered with accolades for their outstanding contribution to the 100-plus-year-old institution whose motto simply states, 'Learn of Leave'.

Thomas, now one of the island's most noted attorneys, said he had spent 50 years at his alma mater, "Of that 50, I saw myself representing that school in sporting events and serving on the school board for 21 years".

Civic-minded Chin, owner of Overton Plaza and the landmark Sunshine Plaza, "has given his all to Cornwall College. He is one of the school's most consistent benefactors", said Roy Ten-Fah as he read the citation describing the man regarded as a passionate historian.

An avid Marlin tournament enthusiast, Reid, owner of the two Clinicare pharmacies in Montego Bay was lauded for his continuous contribution to sporting activities, while a student of the institution and since leaving.

Dentist, Dr. Dean Weatherly, who has led the school's football team in several DaCosta Cup championship matches, was lauded as the man who produced a team that is probably the best Jamaica has ever known.

Chaired by attorney, Nathan Robb, the event was attended by vice president, Everton Anderson, Principal Denham McIntyre and his wife Monica, Trevor and Audrey Tomlinson, Lance Gibbs, Steve Bucknor, Mayor Charles Sinclair and Glennette Campbell, Andrea Lyle and Sheila Weatherly.
