Intellectualising raw indiscipline
Published: Monday | September 21, 2009
TELEVISION JAMAICA should repeat an episode of 'Entertain-ment Report', aired two weeks ago. There was a vox pop among Jamaicans in New York City about the ridiculous Gully vs Gaza square-off.
This is what one gentleman had to say: "I went to Barbados the other day and their dollar was 2-1 to the US dollar. I went to Trinidad and it was 6-1; in Jamaica it's 89-1 and we are talking about Gully vs Gaza."
Well said.
Led by ignorant deejays
When will our so-called learned (including Messrs Leahcim Semaj and Ian Boyne) stop trying to intellectualise the crude behaviour of these misguided youth, and blaming it on society?
The popular theory from the gallery is: "'Cause dem poor an' black. If a uptown people dem wouldn't seh nutten."
What the Bounty Killers, Mavados and Vybz Kartels are displaying is raw indiscipline. If they lived in a country based on order, they would be in prison. But they don't, so they get away with all forms of indiscipline.
What a thing Jamaica has come to? A country that produced thinkers like Marcus Garvey, Norman Manley and Bob Marley is now led by coarse, ignorant deejays.
