The Jamaica Legion's fundraising Poppy Drive is on a mission to raise $4.5 million to help ageing ex-servicemen.

The annual fundraiser seeks to support the Jamaican veterans and ex-servicemen who served in World Wars I and II.

The drive kicked off last Saturday with a walk around the Emancipation Park in New Kingston.

Other fund-raising activities slated to mark the drive, which runs till November, is a concert at Curphey Place in Swallowfield, St Andrew, on October 4.

The Jamaica Legion, which was established in 1949, presently hosts 15 ex-servicemen aged 67 to 92.

The organisation is appealing to members of the public to give generously to the poppy appeal in honouring those who served the country.
