Bungles' criminal record questioned

The prosecution yesterday sought to further discredit the former head of the St Catherine North Police Superintendent Harry 'Bungles' Daley on day two of his testimony at his corruption trial.

Daley is being tried in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court for allegedly accepting protection money for a plaza in Ewarton.

In court, the prosecution insisted on questioning Superintendent Daley about previous criminal charges despite strong objections from his lawyers.

Rape charge

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Dirk Harrison first asked the cop to respond to a rape charge that was once brought against him.

Harrison asked Daley if it was a fact that that he was charged with rape some time ago.

Daley said yes, but he said that case was eventually thrown out of court.

Harrison then sought more information on what he said was an assault charge against Daley several years ago.

Daley rejected assertions that he had ever been charged with assault, but he conceded that he once had an altercation with Linton Clarke, the father of Tafari Clarke, who is the key witness in the corruption trial now under way.
