Although Natasha Murdoch lost her job two months ago she was able to smile brightly after watching her daughter receive a package of stationery from Donnette Prendergast, at her sixth annual Back-to-School treat in Hellshire on Saturday.

''This will help her to go back to school as for the last two months I got laid off. With school opening it crossed my mind as to where she would be getting the book them from. Thanks to all for their support," Murdoch said.

Murdoch's story was not the only one with a happy ending as children from all over the island descended on the beach where they were given packages with books, pencils, crayons, markers, rubbers and rulers.

Those who turned out were also given snacks and toys and told stories.

Entertainers, Egg Nogg, Sprying I,and Krucial also put down their microphones and helped with the handing out of the goodies.

The trio from Trendsetta Productions told The Gleaner it was a privilege to serve the children, especially with items for their education.

Their views were echoed by Keisha Lewis, a councillor, who said Prendergast was making a wonderful contribution to education.

"If education is being looked after, then the future is encouraging and the effort here to give says a whole lot," said Lewis.

Prendergast said she was thankful to the Jamaica Biscuit Company for its continued support of the programme.

''The spirit of giving has been encouraged by the company, and as a mother it feels good to know that you've touched the lives of children especially the less fortunate,'' said Prendergast.
