THE OLYMPIC Gardens police are now searching for a group of criminals who broke into a construction company and used a motor vehicle belonging to the organisation to remove their loot.
The criminals reportedly stole nearly $10 million worth of goods, equipment and office supplies from McGregor and Levy construction company on Hagley Park road in St Andrew, and used a panel truck that was parked in the yard to transport it to an unknown destination.
Desmond Levy, one of the principals, told The Gleaner that the thieves later returned the vehicle to the company yard and then disappeared.
"We have been here for so many years and we have never had such an incident," Levy said.
The robbery took place just after 10 Saturday night. Levy said the robbers "ambushed the watchman, put a hood over his head, tied him up and put him in a room", before going on their rampage.
Among the items stolen are three computers, one microwave oven, a stove, a refrigerator, several sheets of ply board, bags of cement as well as power tools and toilet paper.
Yesterday, McGregor and Levy were mopping up the after effects of the robbery. Levy said that it was unlikely that it would stall business activities at the company.
"Our clients have been contacted and they understand what has happened. It will no doubt have a slight effect on business but work has to continue," Levy said.
