MANCHESTER, England (AP):

Manchester City has signed Brazilian leftback Sylvinho on a one-year deal.

The club announced yesterday that the 35-year-old former Arsenal and Barcelona defender would be a backup to England leftback Wayne Bridge.

He is the latest arrival at City, which has already signed Carlos Tevez, who had been on loan at Manchester United, Gareth Barry from Aston Villa, Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn and Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal. The club has also agreed to sign Joleon Lescott from Everton.

City manager Mark Hughes said: "Sylvinho has a wealth of experience at the very top level, having represented Brazil and played for some of the very top clubs in Europe."
