Capitalise on our athletes

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Our athletes have done it yet again and have proven our dominance in the field of athletics.

Many of our government ministers and opposition figures continue to speak of the many benefits that sport tourism can bring to our nation and the region in general.

The actions, however, are yet to be seen and felt by the majority of the populace.

time to think

Every day, those of us with access to the television and Internet are bombarded by advertisements featuring foreigners hawking their products to us.

It is now time for us to become dominant in this area as well. With the global reach of our athletes, I am yet to see an advertising campaign that utilises our home-grown stars pushing our island and produce "to the world".

ad campaign

Imagine the impact that an ad campaign with Usain Bolt extolling the virtues and benefits of the good old Trelawny yam would have on our neighbours overseas.

We wouldn't have hands to plant and sell yams to meet the demand.

Our leaders and business conglomerates need to quickly capitalise on the goodwill before it's too late.

I am, etc.,
