A STASH of cocaine with an estimated street value of US$385,000 (J$34.2m) was intercepted Thursday night, shortly after arriving in a container from Panama. According to the police, the container arrived in the name of a Corporate Area businesswoman.
"This goes to underscore the point we have been making, that there is a resurgence of cocaine coming into the island, through various means," head of the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division, Senior Superintendent Carlton Wilson disclosed yesterday.
He said his team had been maintaining close watch on vessels arriving from Panama, Guyana and Venezuela, from where it is believed most of the cocaine was coming.
In the first six months of this year, the police said they seized 161 kilograms of the dangerous drug. Last year, they confiscated 265 kilograms.
