Wehby is returning to GraceKennedy Limited as a senior executive.
It's understood that the Government is now actively considering a replacement and businessman Christopher Zacca is tipped for the job.
Zacca recently stepped down as the president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica.
He has also resigned as the deputy chairman of the ATL Group of Companies, effective September 30, after 18 years of service.
In announcing the resignation on July 8, ATL Chairman Gordon 'Butch' Stewart said Zacca had his full support in his future endeavours.
Speaking with The Gleaner Power 106 News on Thursday night, Zacca reserved comment on the news that he could be heading to the finance ministry.
"I have made no decision and I have not yet made a determination as to what I will do," he told The Gleaner Power 106 News.
Zacca said he had not yet been made an offer to become a senator and to join the Government.
In the meantime, economist Dr Wayne Henry continues to undertake some of the technical responsibilities that were held by Senator Wehby.
Dr Henry, who worked as an adviser to the agriculture minister, was transferred to the finance ministry in May of this year.
