( L - R ) Bolt, Powell

A hot 100 metres clash between the two fastest men ever, Jamaica's world 100 metres record holder Usain Bolt and the former holder Asafa Powell, is set to highlight today's opening day of the two-day Aviva Grand Prix at Crystal Palace in London.

The men will first compete in the heats of the event at 12.17 p.m. (Ja time) before the big final two hours later.

The 100 metres field includes one other Jamaican, Yohan Blake, who clocked a personal best 9.93 seconds at the Paris Golden League meet a week ago. Bolt clocked a season best 9.79 to win the event.

Blake and Powell, with a season best 9.88, will run in heat one of the 100 metres, which also includes Americans Travis Padgett (season best 10.00) and Ivory Williams (9.93).

In heat two Bolt will compete against his training partner Daniel Bailey of Antigua and Barbuda, Americans Rae Edwards (10.02) and Mark Jelks (10.04). Bailey clocked an Antiguan national record 9.91 behind Bolt in Paris.

World leader

The meet continues tomorrow with the big attraction being American Tyson Gay, the world leader in both the 100m and 200m with times of 9.77 and 19.58.

Bolt and Gay are due to face each other for the first time this season in tomorrow's 4x100 metres. A Racers Track Club quartet will go up against two American teams, two British teams, Canada, Australia and Switzerland.

The only Jamaican woman in action today is 2004 Olympic sprint relay gold medallist Aleen Bailey. Bailey will run in the women's 200 metres against Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of The Bahamas, America Marshevet Hooker and Laverne Jones of the Virgin Islands.
