Adopt compulsory military service proposal
Published: Tuesday | July 14, 2009
I think Mark Kerr-Jarrett's proposal for compulsory military service makes sense and should be studied and implemented. I am a Jamaican/United States citizen who has been in the US military for over 17 years. I have been trained in logistics and electrical power production; my battalion falls directly under the US Army Corps of Engineers, and we provide paramount support during natural disasters and other emergencies.
Upward mobility avenue
The JDF Army Corps of Engineers could be patterned off the US system. This venture would definitely provide an avenue of upward mobility for my Jamaican brothers and sisters. Kerr-Jarrett included joint venture training in his proposition. This undertaking, similar to the 'Industry Led Training' afforded members of my battalion the facilities for students to receive training from experts in the subject matter who are also qualified to recommend certification on successful completion of courses.
The physical, mental and disciplinary training offered by the JDF will definitely foster the removal of a large number of young susceptible minds from the source of criminality. Training provided by the equipment companies and educational institutions would ensure advancement in knowledge and skills and, ultimately the attainment of well-rounded professionals of high standard.
I am, etc.,
