Salmon surprises top seed

Lawrence Salmon defeated number-one-ranked Jordan Harris 6-4 7-5 to book his place in the semi-finals of the Pan Caribbean Bank All Jamaica Under-18 Junior Singles Championships at the Eric Bell Centre yesterday.

Salmon, who is unseeded in the competition, said he was delighted with his performance.

"It was a wonderful feeling because I am not really training, and playing like this is very great," said Salmon. "I played the entire game with my heart and I concentrated a lot and I never took my mind off winning."

Tough challenge

Salmon, who will face Sheldon McIntosh in the semi-finals, added that he is expecting a tough challenge from his opponent.

"I am expecting a very tough game from him because he is a really good player, but I am prepared for it," Salmon said.

In the other semi-final match-up, Joseph Ross will oppose number-four-ranked Camarsh Crumbie.

In the quarter-finals, Crumbie recorded a 6-3 7-5 win over Vincent Williams, McIntosh had a hard-fought 6-4 4-6 6-1 win over Philip Bond, and Ross stopped number-three-ranked Jahvair Mullings 6-1 6-2.

In the girls' Under-18 singles semi-finals, Neeah Rose will oppose Simone Vranov-Brown, and Sicquena Sinclair faces Shantal Blackwood.

In the girls' Under-16 semi-finals, fifth-seeded Lauren Vranov-Brown plays number-two-ranked Sinclair, and Neeah Rose faces Phadria Kepple.

Rose defeated number-one-ranked Shelita Haughton 6-3 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
