ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):
The newly refurbished Windsor Park Sports Stadium has come in for high praise from ICC match referee Chris Broad, ahead of the two one-day internationals scheduled to be staged here later this month.
Broad was on the island earlier this week to inspect the facility in preparation for the doubleheader between West Indies and Bangladesh on July 26 and 28.
"Really, I think that the ground is really superb. This is a beautiful facility. There are one or two areas that need to be finished up," said the former England opener.
"As you know, there have been a couple of inspections already and that is the reason I have come here to make sure that everything is in place and things are, indeed, in place."
First-ever international cricket match
Windsor Park, which was completed in early 2007, will be hosting the country's first-ever international cricket match.
The venue was refurbished at a cost of US$17 million as a gift from the People's Republic of China.
The two one-dayers will be part of the three-match series, with the final game being played at Warner Park in St Kitts.
Pressing issues
Broad said cricket authorities here had dealt with most of the pressing issues and there were only minor details left to be tidied up.
"Things are about 95 per cent to 100 per cent complete. Just little things, and there are always little things, which need to be done at the last minute," Broad said.
"The main issues have been taken care of and everything is ready to go. The ground is perfect and I am sure that the pitch will be fine. I have been told that the pitch is a good one and the outfield looks terrific."
West Indies will also play Bangladesh in two Tests, scheduled for Arnos Vale in St Vincent from July 9-13 and the National Stadium in Grenada from July 17-21.
