Rikardo Smith - File
The Burger King Amateur Boxing Series, promoted by the Jamaica Boxing Board, will continue this evening at a new venue. It will be Boxing on the Beach at the Barbican Beach Football Venue, Barbican Road, with an eight-bout card, featuring the top names in amateur boxing, starting at 8 p.m.
Special guest at the show will be featherweight prospect Nicholas Walters, who is on a brief visit from his base in Panama, in between fights. Walters, who turned pro last year is now 11-0 and fights again in Panama at the end of the month.
Long-awaited clash
The boxing series, which started last year, has proved to be an exciting one and the card tomorrow should live up to expectations. Feature bout will be the long-awaited return clash between Jamaica's top welterweight Rikardo Smith and the new kid on the block, Shakima Mullings, a Jamaican who learnt his boxing in the United States.
Mullings, who returned to Jamaica last year, scored an upset victory over Smith some months ago and then showed that it was no fluke when he defeated the No. 2 welterweight Ricardo Brown recently.
Smith, who had been unbeaten in Jamaica for some years, and won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games, has been eagerly awaiting the return and will now get his chance. It should be a very interesting encounter, as Mullings is very confident that he will win again.
Other boxers who will be in action are light welterweights Camion Goldson and Oraine Walters, middleweights Oshane Reid and Michael Holmes and light heavyweight champion Kimarni Campbell.
