JOA president Mike Fennell
Veteran sports administrator Mike Fennell has been returned as president of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) for another four-year term.
Fennell was one of nine officers and directors elected at the quadrennial general meeting of the JOA on June 29. In a distinguished career, Fennell has served as president for the past 32 years. He is also president of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
A newcomer to the executive is Yvonne Kong, retired principal of the G.C. Foster Sports College. Kong replaces the late Jimmy Carnegie.
The full team
The full team for this new term is: president - Michael Fennell, first vice-president - Don Anderson, second-vice president - Captain Horace Burrell, secretary general - Neville McCook, and treasurer - Compton Rodney. The directors are Howard Aris, Denise Forrest, Molly Rhone and Yvonne Kong.
Best sporting administrators
The team includes some of Jamaica's best sporting administrators. Aris and Burrell are presidents of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association and the Jamaica Football Federation, respectively, while McCook and Rhone hold important international posts.
McCook is the president of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association and member of the Council of the International Association of Athletics Federations, and Rhone is the president of the International Federation of Netball Associations.
Fennell said the JOA will continue to serve Jamaica well.
"Our team is experienced and forward looking," he said.
He added that the JOA will be taking advantage of the programmes available to the association through Olympic Solidarity for the further development of coaches and administrators in all sports.
