Nelson fined, to serve ban

Leading jockey Dane Nelson has been stood down for one raceday by the stewards for careless riding aboard TIMOTHY SCOTT in the eighth race at Caymanas Park on Saturday, June 13.

Nelson, who was also fined $2,000 by the stewards when he was summoned to the Winchester Road offices of the Jamaica Racing Commission on Tuesday, was penalised for causing interference to both MAGNIFICO and TWENTY NINE in the final 200 metres of the race won by RED LION.

Nelson also has another case at the JRC involving SEGURO ORO. but this was not heard on Tuesday. The horse was disqualified from second place in the fourth race won by WESTERN GENIUS last Saturday, this for causing interference to the favourite RIP CURRENT in mid-stretch. This case will soon be heard.

Meanwhile, three other riders were suspended following inquiries by the stewards on Tuesday. Chief among them was Clive Lynch.

The senior jockey was slapped with a four-day suspension for careless riding aboard disqualified winner, TOBAGO, in the 11th race on June 20. He also picked up a further one-day suspension for a riding offence aboard DANCING SAM on May 30.

Rayan Wilson picked up two days in addition to a $2,000 fine for careless riding aboard MISS OLD HARBOUR in the sixth race last Saturday, this effective on Saturday, July 11, while Delroy Beharie received a one-day suspension and $2,000 fine for careless riding aboard GRACE MARIE in the second race on Saturday, June 20.
