Ever wish your child would do something besides play video games and hang out on the computer? Want your child to become the next big cricket star at school or just be better at tennis?
If you are new to the summer camp scene, or just wondering what's out there today at an affordable price that rivals the video game Halo 3, the Police Officers' Club sports day camp is one option.
Situated at the Police Officers' Club in St Andrew, the summer camp, which doubles as a swim-training centre during the school year, morphs into a hub of activity for kids aged three to 16 every July to August.
Fun activities
For a registration fee of $400, your child will have access to lawn tennis, swimming, football, cricket, aerobic dancing, hand-eye coordination games, and movies. The activities will be supervised by sporting personnel from GC Foster College. They'll even play dandy shandy and enjoy other fun games from yesteryear.
"In my camp, I try to give them a more rounded approach to the experience," said camp director Ainsworth Reid, "so they will go on to become assets to their schools.
"I want to get the word out," he said. "What we want to do is develop the whole person when they come here. It's working wonders."
Special visitors
Througout the summer, well-known sportsmen will be invited to drop by and give motivational talks to the kids.
"It's a matter of exposure," said Reid. "We bring by sports icons, like a Courtney Walsh ... . The idea is to get interaction with the kids so they get inspired."
This summer Reid is aiming to bring in BMX stunt riders to show some awesome tricks.
Registration for the five-week camp will be held July 8-9. Day camp runs Mondays to Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a major fun day in the final week to end the camp with a bang.
