WESTERN BUREAU:
Alps, nestled in south Trelawny's Cockpit Country, might not have the fame of the great mountain range stretching across Western Europe, but two of its brightest stars, Roland Gordon and Sasha Palmer, have helped to put it on the map.
Roland, who hopes to become a pilot, might one day fly over both mountainous regions. For now, however, he is just basking in the knowledge that he soared to new heights in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), the annual exam that determines placement for elementary-level youths in high school.
The Alps Primary student, who is a big fan of cricket, credited his performance to the time-tested truism of hard work. He advised that GSAT will not be a dreaded exam "if children do their work."
First steps
Sasha, who also put a feather in the cap of Alps Primary, made her first steps towards her chosen career - for now - nursing.
She said her inspiration for becoming a nurse was a desire to help people. Sasha had high praise for her teachers and principal, Bevon Ferguson.
