Western Bureau:

Despite coming under serious pressure from some affiliates in recent months, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) executive officer Loraine Scringer has been nominated unopposed to serve yet another term as president of the Hanover Football Association (HFA).

When nominations closed last Friday for the upcoming HFA biennial general meeting, which is slated for Thursday, July 9, at the Lucea United Church Hall, Scringer was the only person who was nominated by the FA's affiliates for president, a position she has held for the past 10 years.

"At the closing of nomination of officers, all 27 affiliates nominated Ms Scringer unopposed," stated Delano Williams, the general secretary. "In fact, all the persons nominated for the various positions were nominated unopposed."

The full nominated team, which will now go the biennial general meeting solely to be ratified, read as follows:

President - Loraine Scringer, first vice president - Sheridan Samuels, second vice president - Bryce Grant, general secretary - Delano Williams, assistant general secretary - Milton Jarrett, treasurer - Daren Barnes, assistant treasurer - Leon Cunningham and executive officer - Raymond McNish.

In a recent interview, first vice president designate Samuels, who served as general secretary in the outgoing administration, said he was hoping that, once the new elections are over, those who have be taking the association to task, will hold back the constant criticism and give them a chance to meet their mandate to their affiliates.

Accountability issues

Popular newspaper columnist Craig Oates, who started the last administration as first vice president but subsequently resigned, citing accountability issues, has been very tough on the HFA, condemning what he described as inappropriate behaviour by elected officials.

"They still have important questions to answer as to how sponsorship money is spent in the parish," said Oates, who all but dismissed the upcoming biennial general meeting as a farce.

However, for Scringer and her new team, they are hoping that, come July 9, the acrimonious relationship that exists between the FA and other sporting stakeholders in the parish will be put aside to facilitate the dawning of a new era.

In addition to the new executive that has been nominated, four council members have been selected from the four regions in the parish to serve on the board. The council members are: popular football coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams (Eastern 2), Jermaine Miller (East Central), Orville Scott (West Central) and Orane Kentish (Western).
