Mocho Primary and Infant School receives computers and printer

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints came to the rescue of Mocho Primary and Infant School when it donated eight computers and printer in an official handover ceremony earlier this month.

Directors of humanitarian services of the church, Elder Stuart and his wife Vicki, made the presentation to Louise Clarke, school principal. The donation, worth $635,000, included material for the reconfiguration of a shed into a temporary computer lab.

Last October, just days after Clarke was installed as principal, the school was vandalised and computers and foodstuff stolen. Clarke, in her summary of the events leading up to the donation, said a teacher then encouraged her to make a request to her church.

Project

The church assessed the request and by January plans were in place to start the project. Labour was provided by the Security and Upliftment Association of Dawkins and Surrounding Areas, a volunteer organisation committed to serving communities.

Yvette Dennis, community relations education officer for Region Six and guest speaker at the function, said, "Winners know what they want and are undaunted by challenges." She said that she saw in the principal and students the spirit of champions.

She also commended the support of the community and encouraged the school to continue to build partnerships in order to grow.
