Leg-spinner Rawle Lewis and batsman Ryan Hinds, both of whom have been red-hot this season in the two-day Jamaica Super League Cricket, will come face to face this weekend when their clubs - the Kingston Tigers and Trelawny Buccaneers - square off at Sabina Park.
The eastern Caribbean duo, who have been performing well since their arrival as overseas professionals for their respective clubs, will seek to outdo each other for their clubs that are jostling for pole position in the seven-round championship, which is at its midway stage.
In Lewis' last outing against Kurt Wilkinson's Hanover Dolphins, he made 100 not out and took five wickets in leading his team to an outright win, while Hinds, whose team was out of action last week, scored 122 and took 4-20 against Brenton Parchment' St Elizabeth Warriors in his last outing.
"It is a key match between us and Trelawny. They are playing good cricket and we are playing better than before and at the top of our game," said Tigers coach Terrence Corke.
joint leaders
The Tigers are joint leaders of the standings with 11 points, along with defending champions St Catherine Saints and Manchester Lions, while the Buccaneers are sixth.
"We are prepared as we know that Kingston is one of the more established clubs in the country. But at the end of the day, it is not about tradition, it is what happens on the field," said Buccaneers coach, Phillip Service.
In other games, the Saints, who surprisingly lost first innings to the Lions last week at home, will seek to rebound against second-from-bottom Westmoreland Wizards (three points) at Chedwin Park, while the Lions will seek yet another scalp when they host mid-table St Elizabeth Warriors (8) at Kirkvine Oval.
"The team is playing kind of hot and cold. But having bettered the Saints we are optimistic of a good result. We are border opponents and we expect the clash to bring out the best in each other," said Lions coach, Barry Barnes.
Melbourne Kangaroos (9), who earlier this week returned from Trinidad and Tobago where they failed to progress beyond the first round of the WIPA Twenty20 Club Champions League, will host the Dolphins (2) in the weekend's other matchup.
