Williams-Mills heads Jamaican contingent at Adidas Classic

FOLLOWING her impressive showing at the Jamaica International Invitational (JII) meet on May 2 where she posted a sub 51 seconds to win the 400 metres event, 2007 World Championships bronze medallist, Novlene Williams-Mills, will lead some 15 Jamaicans into today's Adidas Classic in Carson, California.
Williams-Mills who beat highly rated American Sanya Richards in the JII, and fellow Jamaicans Shereefa Lloyd, Rosemarie Whyte and Sonita Sutherland will run the 400m.
Veteran Aleen Bailey, who is showing good form in the 100m metres following her 11.15 seconds clocking at the JII meet, along with Schillone Calvert, who clocked a season best 11.19 seconds at the Penn Relays last month, will take on a strong field in the 100m. Also entered are Americans Carmaleta Jeter, who clocked 10.96 seconds in California last month, Lauryn Williams and Marshavet Hooker.

Another veteran, Vonette Dixon, who finished a close second in the JII in 12.80 seconds and Penn Relays-winner Nickeisha Wilson (12.95), will be in the 100m hurdles field, along with world leader Priscilla Lopez-Schliep of Canada who, clocked 12.52 seconds to win in Doha. Her countrywoman, Perdita Felicien along with the Americans Dawn Harper and Candice Davis are also down to compete.
Following her season-opening victory at the JII Meet in the 800m, Olympic finalist Kenia Sinclair will renew rivalry with American Hazel Clarke in her pet event.
A keen battle is expected in the women's 200 metres as, following her impressive showing in the 400 metres in Doha, World Cham-pionships, 200 metres gold medallist Allyson Felix will compete in her first half-lap event this season where she will clash with Sanya Richards. Felix will be hoping to better Jeter's world leading time of 22.59 seconds.

There will be some very exciting clashes in the men's events with the 100 metres taking centre stage. Three Jamaicans, Yohan Blake, Steve Mullings and Dwight Thomas, will face the starter. Blake, who became a professional this year, will be hoping to improve on his personal best of 10.07. Also in the field are Blake's training partner Daniel Bailey of Antigua who has a 10.02 clocking this year, world leader Travis Padgett of the United States with a 10.00 and Olympic silver medallist Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago.
Marvin Anderson will be Jamaica's sole representative in the 200 metres where he will take on world leader, American Lashawn Merritt. Merritt, the Olympic 400 metres champion, clocked 20.17 in North Carolina last month. Merritt's teammates Xavier Carter and Shawn Crawford will also face the starter.
Jamaica's Ricardo Chambers will be hoping for a good performance when he lines up in the men's 400 metres where he will face the likes of Jeremy Wariner and David Neville of the United States along with Chris Brown of the Bahamas and rising star Renny Quow of Trinidad and Tobago.
The other Jamaican who will be in action today will be former national 110 metres hurdles champion Maurice Wignall, who will compete in his pet event and will face a strong field which includes Americans Terrence Trammell, Aries Merritt and NCAA indoor 60 metres hurdles champion, Ronnie Ash.
