Another team achieving 150 points in Division I were last year's Division II champions Port Authority. They defeated JPS 150-113. In the third Division I match played in the opening round on May 8, Berger defeated Wray & Nephew White Rum 134-120.
Three of the six matches scheduled in Division I were postponed for varied reasons. The matches in question were Carib Cement vs Marksman, Wray & Nephew Brandy vs LoJ and Seprod vs JUTC.
Meanwhile, the opening matches in Division II on May 8 saw Tastee clipping STATIN 121-115 and Pepsi whipping Courts 133-111. In other matches, NHT stopped Companies Office of Jamaica 137-124, National Baking Company drubbed Nutrition Products 136-99 and SDC beat Airports Authority 144-128. The match between Premix and newcomers OCS Electrical was not played.
Jamaica domino team doing well
Meanwhile, the four-member Jamaica team currently in Russia for the World Domino Championship - Calman Barrett, Martin Hugh, Trevor Tomlinson and Esrick Gopalsingh - have been playing fairly well.
According to reports coming out of Moscow, Tomlinson and his partner Gopalsingh are in second place out of 100 pairs, while Barrett and Hugh are in 35th place. The team was selected by the National Association of Domino Bodies. The president, Rey Smith, accompanied the team.
Classic, Fort Int'l for Portmore domino final
Defending champions Caribbean Classic and Fort International will meet in the 2008/2009 CTL-sponsored Portmore/St Catherine domino final on Sunday, May 24 after contrasting semi-final wins at Caymanas Park last Sunday.
Caribbean Classic came from behind to beat the favourite Eagle View 300-282 in one semi-final, while Fort International crushed Ackee Pod 300-228.
Eagle View, who dominated the preliminary round of the competition by winning 21 of their 22 matches, including a home win over Classic, raced into a commanding 31-point lead in the first-half victory to be 24 points clear at half-time.
After the interval, Eagle View continued to assert their authority but Classic won 17 straight games to tie the score at 259. They surged ahead three points later and moved away for an easy win.
Both the final and third-place playoff will take place at Caymanas Park on Sunday, May 24.
Caribbean Classic will be gunning to win the competition for a fifth time.
Portmore domino
The bottom eight teams in the CTL Portmore/St Catherine domino league will have an opportunity to win silverware tomorrow in four specially arranged matches by the Jamaica Domino Federation.
The matches are Lime Tree vs Westchester for the Ken's Wildflower Trophy at Ken's Wildflower, Marlie Mount vs Ken's Wildflower for the Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds Trophy at Right Stuff Domino Club (Cedar Grove Road), Right Stuff vs Old Harbour United for the Mayor of Spanish Town Andrew Wheatley Trophy at Colours Sports Club, Port Henderson Plaza, and Prozz and Conzz vs ISCF for the Senator Arthur Williams Trophy at Fort International Domino Club, Passagefort. All matches start at 11:30 a.m.
Victory for Seaview Flames
Seaview Flames defeated Edgewater Wolverines 64-57 in the feature game from the INSPORTS/SDC Southern basketball league at the Stadium Courts on Wednesday.
Alton Walker scored a game high 14 points while Renique Fraser scored 15 rebounds and eight points for the winners.
The second big matchup of the night saw Waterhouse Blazers extending their winning streak to 3-0 by stopping Hagley Park Thorns 68-55.
Waterhouse's victory was spearheaded by Kirk Shaw with 21 points, while Ralston Brown got 14 points for the losers.
In other games, Spanish Town Spartans beat Duhaney Park 64- 34; Disciple Kings defeated Donmair Common Sense 68-58.
Free Hill beat Oracabessa
In Thursday's action from the Island Sport Trust sponsored primary school football championships, a 47th minute strike by Saskia McNeish gave Free Hill Primary a stunning 1-0 victory over the defending champions Oracabessa Primary.
In a match played at the Eden Park Sports Complex in Jacks River St Mary, Oracabessa were left licking their wounds after squandering the easiest of scoring opportunities twice, from point-blank range.
McNeish ensured her school got maximum points when she latched on to a pass and fired through the legs of Damali Brown in goal for Oracabessa who were caught flat-footed.
Primary school basketball
Defending champions Covenant Prep lost 8-9 to Mavis Vill Primary as the INSPORTS Primary/Prep School basketball competition got under way at the National Stadium courts on Thursday.
The early game was far from close as Holy Family Primary drubbed August Town Primary 26-5.
Betta Price victorious
Betta Price recorded the biggest margin of victories in action from the INSPORTS/JN Money Transfer Community Domino played last Sunday.
At 65a Maxfield Park, Betta Price defeated Small World 300-228.
High Light, in the second match played at 93 Maxfield Park, defeated Woodford Park 300-250.
In the day's final match, Gold Club beat Ackee Tree 300-291 at 4 Amin Drive.
Meanwhile, Sour Sop received a walkover against Swallowfield, who did not show up for the game.
