ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):

West Indies selectors have named a strong 14-member squad for the International Cricket Council's Women's World Twenty20 Championship in England next month.

The bulk of the players who contested the Women's World Cup in Australia earlier this year were retained in the squad announced yesterday for the June 11-21 event.

The squad will be captained again by Merissa Aguilleira with former West Indies opener and Sherwin Campbell as coach.

West Indies will expect much from all-rounder Jamaican Stafanie Taylor, who starred at the World Cup for the regional side. She gathered 195 runs to lead the batting and claimed 10 wickets with her off breaks to spearhead her side's bowling efforts.

Taylor has adapted quickly to Twenty20 cricket as her sublime 90 from 49 balls against Ireland last year will attest.

Her fellow Jamaican Shanel Daley, the daughter of former first-class batsman Aaron Daley, will also be expected to shine with both bat and ball after her impressive outing in the World Cup.

West Indies have been drawn in a tough group for the Twenty20 World Championships, meeting the likes of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in Group A.

The regional side will open their campaign against South Africa at Taunton on May 11.

SQUAD: Merissa Aguilleira (captain), Kirbyina Alexander (vice-captain), Shanel Daley, Deandra Dottin, Cordel Jack, Stacy-Ann King, Pamela Lavine, Debbie-Ann Lewis, Anisa Mohammed, Juliana Nero, Shakera Selman, Danielle Small, Charlene Taitt, Stafanie Taylor.
