Monymusk made it a wonderful double for Clarendon, when they won the South Central Confed Under-20 final at Brancourt at the weekend.

Providing the perfect fillip for parish mate Humble Lions to later take the senior confed football title against Bodles, Christopher Dunn scored the all-important goal in the 71st minute as Monymusk beat St Elizabeth team, Tafari Lions, 1-0 to celebrate the first hold on the region's Under-20 tournament, which was sponsored by Locker Room Sports.

The competition involved all 12 teams which participated in the senior confed league, with Monymusk winning against Black River, Hillstars and Bodles and drawing 1-1 against Morgan's Pass in the preliminaries. They defeated Tru-Juice 1-0 in the semi-finals.

Both the team's coach, Ricken Suckoo, and Clarendon FA president, Michael Ricketts, underscored the significance of the win. According to Suckoo who played as a midfielder on the losing Vere team to Rusea's in both the daCosta and Ben Francis Cups in 1987, the win helped salvaged pride after the senior team's exit in the confed competition, ironically, to Humble Lions in the semi-finals.

"Once we lost our way in the confed league (senior), this team kept showing how strong the talent base in the squad was. I had no doubt that these youngsters could pull it off. We just have to find a way to keep them focused," he told The Gleaner.

Ricketts emphasised that Monymusk's win underscored the strength of the parish's youth programme and expressed hope that the south Clarendon team would use them as the nursery to strengthen their senior team's future challenges at the confed level.
