The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) biannual Law Enforcement Torch Run will get under way at 9 a.m tomorrow morning at Nelson Mandela Park in Half-Way-Tree Square.

The series of relays by the country's enforcement officers will attempt to raise $2 million for Jamaica's Special Olympians' journey to the 2011 World Summer Games in Athens, Greece.

The Torch Run will pass through all 14 parishes across the island before ending at the Police National Athletics Championships at the Elletson Road Sports Complex in Kingston on Saturday, May 30.

"The efforts of the police will greatly assist Special Olympics Jamaica," said Lorna Bell, executive director, Jamaica Special Olympics. "The JCF has been supporting us for over 30 years and we implore the public to support the efforts of the officers."

Digicel Jamaica, Victoria Mutual, Supreme Ventures and Jamaica Police Co-op Credit Union are sponsoring the 14-day event, along with ColdField Limited (Big Jo), which will provide refreshments for the more than 200 participants.

"It is important for the public to recognise that whilst we the police understand and we recognise that with the recession we have given Special Olympics Jamaica our commitment to this Torch Run every other year," said Inspector Cheryll Brown of the Community Safety and Security Branch.
