Harbour View United ended their winless streak, seemingly getting themselves back into championship contention with a 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens in Digicel Premier League action at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday.

The Stars of the East remain in third place on 65 points behind group leaders Portmore United (70) and Tivoli Gardens (68).

Arnett Gardens, who have suffered their first defeat in 11 games, remain in fifth place on 53 points.

Coach of Harbour View, Donovan Hayles, said consistency is the name of the game and they are still a force to contend with as far as winning the championship is concerned.

Ball possession

He said the players were more committed and showed more consistency in the game, but stated that it wasn't one of their best games in terms of ball possession.

"Any number can play on any given day," Hayles said. "We will assess this game and see what we can do to go forward.

"Definitely, we will have to show people that we have the mettle and we are going to push to the very end," he said.

The Junglists sprang into the lead with a sixth-minute goal from Kevin King, as he seized the opportunity and scored from a melee at the goalmouth.

However, Harbour View were not to go home empty-handed as Marcelino Blackburn equalised with a header in the 24th minute.

Arnett Gardens worked the ball into good positions several times but failed to add additional goals.

Andre Fagan made them pay and rallied Harbour View by scoring a diving header at the back post in the 31st minute, to give his team a 2-1 advantage.

Fabian Davis, coach of Arnett Gardens, said his team started out pretty well but got complacent and their concentration level dropped. This, he said, contributed to the demise of the team.

"Our concentration lapsed at the back of the field. But we circulated the ball pretty well in the second half and should have at least come out with a draw this evening," Davis said.

He said, overall, the team played a fairly good game but would have to improve on their performance in their next encounter.
