Wadadah FC took a big step towards winningthe 2008-09 Captain's Bakery Western Super League on Saturday when they defeated Frome FC 2-0 in the much-anticipated first-leg final at the Frome Sports Ground in Westmoreland.

The Daniel Ricketts-coached Wadadah team, which has been having a roller-coaster season that included being booted out of the competition and later reinstated, got their goals in stoppage time after a furious 90 minutes which yielded no goals.

Strong energy to score

With both teams seemingly tired, the wily Jeremy Bucknor mustered up some energy and fired Wadadah into a 1-0 lead in the 92nd minute.

Immediately following the restart, the Montego Bay team made it 2-0 when Damion Chambers made good use of a close-range opportunity.

"This is a very good result for us because the return game will be played on our home turf in Montego Bay," said Wadadah striker Curtis Palmer, who has been having a decent season.

"This was the hard work today, so we are now looking to finish the job in the return game."

The return game is slated for next Sunday at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay. Both Wadadah and Frome FC had positive results in their previous game at the Montego Bay venue, as it was there that they sealed their places in the finals with semi-final wins over Seba United and Granville FC, respectively.

Despite the 2-0 loss, Frome FC manager Victor Wright is still quite optimistic that his team has the capacity to turn the tables on the Wadadah in Montego Bay and realise their ambition of winning the title.

According to Wright, his team is a well organised, disciplined and will not go down without a fight. In fact, he expects them to do what they did against Granville in the semi-final when they came to Montego Bay and upstaged them to get into the final.

In addition to the coveted Captain's Bakery Trophy and the $150,000 winner's purse, the eventual champion will qualify for the 2009-10 Digicel Premier League eliminations.
