DERBY, England (CMC):

West Indies' heavy loss to England Lions on Saturday will be no prelude to what can be expected in next week's first Test, head coach John Dyson has assured.

The tourists suffered a 10-wicket whipping at the hands of England's 'A' team at the County Ground after their batting collapsed twice in the match.

Dyson, however, backed his side to pick themselves up and give a good account in the Lord's Test that bowls off on Wednesday.

"I believe we can bounce back from this defeat," he said after the Windies loss in the final tour match.

"As a team, we have bounced back from a number of things before and I think we can put on a good performance in the first Test at Lord's. We are looking forward to Lord's."

West Indies failed to muster 250 in either innings, falling for 203 in their first innings and a paltry 179 in their second. They only bright spots in the batting were rookies David Bernard and Lendl Simmons who scored half-centuries, and the dependable Shivnarine Chanderpaul who also stroked an even 50.

Fast bowler Jerome Taylor, who joined the team last week Monday after passing a late fitness Test in the Caribbean, showed signs of form with three for 54 in the Lions first innings of 311, while rookie pacer Nelon Pascal picked up four for 68.

"I thought Lendl played really well and Shiv again played very well. I thought Jerome had a very good spell with the new ball on his return and Pascal came back very well today to take four wickets and show his ability," Dyson noted.

"In our first innings, David Bernard batted maturely and he bowled some good spells when they batted. We have had moments when we showed how we need to play, but we now have to put them together more consistently."
