As the curtains came down on the XXIV Carifta Swimming Championships held in Aruba from April 15-20, the Jamaicans ended the championships by capturing 32 medals - eight gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze.
On the final day, the swimmers took an additional six medals (three gold, one silver and two bronze) and set one Carifta and three national age group records.
The talented, unassuming and multi-medallist Timothy Wynter again put on a stunning performance and added another gold medal to his name when he broke both the Carifta and the national age group record in the 11-12 boys' 200m backstroke in a time of 2:23.09. This time erased the previous record mark of 2: 28.93, which he had set earlier in the preliminaries.
Danielle Boothe again showed her prowess when she struck gold in the 11-12 girls' 100m breaststroke in 1:19.89, a new national age group record.
Bronze medals
The 11-12 girls' 4x50m relay team placed second in 1:58.39 to record the other national age-group record.
Brittany Kenny also mined gold for Jamaica, winning the 13-14 girls 200m backstroke in 2:38.28.
The bronze medals came from Octivia Gray in the 13-14 100m breaststroke in 1:21.61 and the 13-14 girls' 4x50m freestyle relay, respectively.
The team will return to the island today.
