As many as 12 races are slated for Caymanas Park tomorrow, the programme featuring the two trial races for the upcoming 1000 and 2000 Guineas, the Thornbird Stakes for native bred three-year-old fillies and the Prince Consort Stakes for colts and geldings, both over 1400 metres.
With 12 races down for decision, provision has been made for two Super-6s. The Pick-9, meanwhile, will embrace races four to 12.
We look at the second Super-6 which kicks off in race seven over the straight five course with eight starters from the $270,000 - $250,000 claiming spread. This should come down to four horses - MOUNT DIABLO, ARDRIGH. COLLEGE BOY and FELICIDAD - all winners over the course in the past.
The one best equipped to pull it off must be the Antonio Barker-trained ARDRIGH under in-form Richie Mitchell. The eight-year-old son of Irish Quest failed by a head to catch LIGHT MY FIRE over the course on a $270,000 tag February 7 and subsequently finished 5 3/4 lengths fifth to TWENTY NINE over the straight on a $340,000 tag February 14. Now dropped in class, ARDRIGH gets the nod over COLLEGE BOY, who chased home LIGHT MY FIRE over the course last Saturday.
Improved race
RHOSA KLEBB, who ran an improved race when finishing third to BELLA in a fast-run 1100-metre race on February 14 has worked well since and should provide the answer to the eighth race over 1100 metres for maiden three-year-olds. The bay filly now has the services of champion jockey Omar Walker (replacing the apprentice Omeilo Francis) and should win from FLAWLESS TALENT and HIGH SOCIETY, both on the improve.
They all have the classy MISS RUTH to beat in the ninth race, the $1 million Thornbird Trial Stakes to be contested by 11 fillies. Voted the champion two-year-old of last year, the Percy Hussey-trained MISS RUTH makes her seasonal debut well and truly trained and is tipped to go all the way, despite top weight of 57.0kg.
MINISTEROFJUSTICE, who holds the straight five-track record, should lead home old rival SUPER DAVE in the 10th race over the straight, while the stable-companions BRUCEONTHELOOSE and MAN A YARD, both well drilled by 14-time champion Philip Feanny, should fight out the finish of the 11th race, the Prince Consort Stakes. The lightly raced MAN A YARD, with in-form Paul Francis, looks tempting at the weights with only 51.0kg and is just preferred.
Then, take LUCKY EDDIE to beat I AM I AM and MAHARANI in the closing race over 1500 metres in which 12 have been declared.
