The big Cheltenham National Hunt Festival moves into its fourth and final day with the prestigious Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase over three miles, two furlongs and 110 yards taking the spotlight.
The race, with a whopping purse of $47.5 million, has attracted 16 starters, including the 2007 winner KAUTO STAR, under regular rider Ruby Walsh, and last year's winner, DENMAN with Sam Thomas again in the saddle. Significantly, both hail from the stables of champion trainer Paul Nicholls.
4-5 favourite
Last year, DENMAN at 9-5 beat the then 4-5 favourite KAUTO STAR by six lengths, but the latter has really distinguished himself this season and while we expect it to be close, KAUTO STAR is tipped to rebound as the 7-4 favourite. Nicholls also has another strong candidate in NEPTUNE COLLONGES (9-2), who led for a long way last year to finish third.
