Jazeel Murphy of Bridgeport wins the boys Under-17 100m final in 10.42 seconds at yesterday's Carifta Games Trials at the Stadium East complex.

World junior 100m champion Dexter Lee was yesterday's major casualty at the 2009 Carifta Games Trials at Stadium East.

Lee, who won the World Junior 100m title in Poland last year and the World Youth crown the year before, finished second in his heat in 10.75 seconds and failed to make the final.

With only the heat winners and the two fastest losers advancing Lee, who had the 13th fastest time, looks to be out of the Carifta Games 100m.

Kemar Bailey-Cole of Old Harbour, in his first year at this level, raced away with title honours in 10.53 seconds ahead of St George's College Darrion Mitchell (10.62).

Blamed himself

Lee blamed himself: "I think I took it too easy ... I should have gone out a bit harder ...," he said.

In the female section, Carrie Russell of The Queen's School won in 11.50 to beat Jura Levy of Vere (11.51) and Edwin Allen's Gayon Evans (11.60).

The boys' Under-17 100m produced a very fast time from Bridgeport High's Jazeel Murphy, who stopped the clock in 10.42 to beat Wolmer's Odean Skeen (10.75) and Adam Cummings of Munro (10.75).

Deandrea Whitehorne of Vere (11.71) took the girls' Under-17 event over Holmwood's Shericka Moulton (11.73).

Nikita Tracey of Edwin Allen (58.65) beat Wolmer's Danielle Dowie (59.65) in the Under-20 girls' 400m hurdles, while Dwayne Extol of Wolmer's (52.48) beat Holmwood's Sheldon Williams (53.59) for the boys' crown. Kyle Robinson of Jamaica College (JC) took the boys' Under-17 event in 54.89 ahead of Wolmer's Yanick Hart (55.59).

Sashel Brown of Alpha (44.20) beat Shay-Ann Holness (44.55) in the 300m hurdles.

In the 800m, Ristananna Tracey of Edwin Allen (2:09.89) beat Manchester High's Sharlene Brown (2:11.35) and Donahue Williams of KC (1:51.93) finished ahead of Frome's Andre Moodie (1:53.32) to take the Under-20 titles.

The Under-17 girls' crown went to Holmwood's Chris-Ann Gordon (2:13.69) over Edwin Allen's Carla Thompson (2:14.75) while Waquar DaCosta (1:54.33) and Earl Grant (1:55.62), both of JC, topped the boys' section.

Janieve Russell of Holmwood (1.80m) won the Under-17 high jump, Yushani Durant of UTech (5.94m) took the Under-20 girls long jump, while Julian Forte of Wolmer's was the victor in the Under-17 boys' long jump.
