The 2009 staging of the National Commercial Bank Capital Market Sporting Clays Open competition will be held today at Caymanas Golf and Country Club, starting at 10 a.m.

More than 120 competitors will compete in eight categories. The males will contest the A, B, C, D, E categories. The top three finishers in each category will be presented with trophies. The entry fee for the tournament is $3,500, which includes lunch.

The clays will be released from various heights on the course.

To further enhance this year's experience, the organisers will be providing each shooter with a fully equipped golf cart to assist them with transportation around the course.

There will also be a mini tournament for members of the media who wish to try their hands at the sport.

Brett Thwaites, president of the Jamaica Skeet Club and organiser of the tournament, said he was expecting a very exciting competition.

"People can expect a very big and exciting tournament this year because there are going to be a lot of prizes during the day, courtesy of the sponsors," said Thwaites.

Thwaites added: "It a very serious competition for most of the competitors because the course is going to be a unique challenge for all the shooters, and everyone will be playing hard to win."

National champion Jeffrey Ziadie, Craig Simpson, Leighton Sasso, Ian Banks, Robert Yap and Gregg Chung are among the top competitors who will be seeking top honours at the event.
