Walters' progress impresses trainer

PANAMA CITY, Panama (CMC):

Jacques Deschamps, the Haitian manager of the Jamaican boxer Nicholas Walters, believes the un-beaten super featherweight is improving and on course for more success.

Panama-based Walters stretched his record to 8-0 earlier this month with a third-round knockout of Panamanian Julio Jacobo.

Walters overwhelmed his opponent with a barrage of punches in the second round and Jacobo's handlers would not let their charge out when the bell rang for the start of the third round.

"Nick looked good; he made more use of his jab for a change," Deschamps told CMC Sport.

"Nick still needs to improve on his all-around defence and boxing skills but he is starting to understand the need to work on these different skills," Deschamps added.

"I believe that after three or four more fights he will step up in quality of opposition and by the end of this year be ready for his first 10-rounder and maybe challenge for a regional title in the next 12 months, should all continue to go well for him," Deschamps said.
