  • 4-H clubbites receive goats under revolving programme

    Montego Bay, St James:

Seven members of the St James 4-H Movement were recently presented with young, female Nubian goats for rearing and breeding, as the club's goat revolving programme moved into its second year.

The project, which was launched in the parish last year, is valued at some $200,000, with a total of 11 clubbites and two leaders benefiting so far.

Under the project, a young female goat is given to a clubbite who rears the animal and once it reaches an appropriate age, it is brought to the Montpelier 4-H Centre for breeding. The female offspring is passed on to another clubbite and the cycle continues.

  • Minister confirms granting MP permission to use NWA property

    St Ann's bay, St Ann:

Transport Minister Mike Henry has confirmed that permission was granted for the office of the member of parliament for North East St Ann to be located at the old and abandoned National Works Agency (NWA) premises in St Ann's Bay, St Ann.

St Ann's Bay Mayor Ivan Anderson last week challenged the occupation of the premises by MP Shahine Robinson and the councillors within the divisions of the constituency, on the grounds that it was state property.

Robinson indicated then that permission had been sought and received from the Transport and Works Ministry, which Henry confirmed.

  • Agriculture Ministry helping farmers to boost production

    Black River, St Elizabeth:

State minister in the Ministry of Agriculture J.C. Hutchinson says the ministry has put a number of programmes in place to assist farmers, with the aim of boosting agricultural production.

"We have started what we call the production and productivity programme. This is one where we are actually distributing herbicides. We are giving people assistance in land preparation, we are providing planting material free of cost and we are also assisting with some fertilisers and that programme is ongoing," he stated at a recent agri-business expo in St Elizabeth.

He advised persons interested in accessing this programme to contact their Rural Agricultural Development Authority extension officer.
