In the current financial crisis, spending unnecessary money is the farthest thing from everyone's mind. The average joe is trying to put some extra money in his or her pockets by coming up with some gig to boost earnings.

Although some of these schemes seem far-fetched, others are very practical. This week, we'll focus on making gadgets make money for you.

Selecting the Device

You need to have a vision of what you want to accomplish and what device will get you there. My vision for this week is a projector. Though it's slightly on the expensive side, there is potential to cash in big time.

The Big-Money Scheme

I have a couple of ideas for my projector after I buy it: Rent it out to persons hosting big events, ceremonies or large wedding functions.

There is always someone staging an event that needs some sort of visual aid, and persons generally won't buy expensive equipment like a projector just for a one-day or one-week event. The only other option left is rental, and that's where I come in.

This is the simplest way to make money with a projector right now because the demand is high and the market it is not saturated. But if all else fails, I can still use it to project movies in my house on a large screen and charge my friends, at reasonable cost, to watch hot new DVD releases.

Choosing your brand

This is one the most delicate stages of your money-making scheme. Choosing a cheap, obscure device that lacks an attractive edge may cost you a lot in the long run. If you are committed to turning your technology into dough, regular breakdowns will eat into your profits and get you left behind.

On the other hand, you don't want to choose a brand name that's too expensive that it will take you a very long time to generate profit. Knowing all this, I have chosen to go with the BenQ MP512 projector.

Research, research, research

Before you make your pick, do your research. With so many research options available, including the boundless Internet, there's no acceptable excuse why you can't select the most suitable gadget on the market.

My research on the BenQ MP512 came up with the following:

Pros: Extremely affordable; relatively deep black levels for an entry-level projector.

Cons: Colour accuracy leaves a bit to be desired; not ideal for screen sizes larger than 92 inches wide.

After finding out the pros and cons for the device I have selected, I came to the conclusion that the BenQ MP512 projector is a solid, affordable option for people who want a big screen for casual use. Also, it's priced less than a midsize flat-screen LCD television.

Set Your Plan into Action

Once you have a solid plan of action, you shouldn't have any reason to worry. Just go out there and take the bull by the horns.
