Strong Delivery, Chadman favoured
published: Saturday | July 5, 2008

Ainsley Walters, Freelance Reporter

STRONG DELIVERY's finishing kick should be too powerful for rivals in today's one-mile J.W. Judge Hardie Memorial for $470,000 claimers, one of two trophy races on the 10-race card, which has a $19 million Pick-9 carryover, starting at the second event.

Extremely competitive among top-level claimers, STRONG DELIVERY has not been worse than third in his three recent races among this group.

In fact, the two races he lost were against the same horse, twice finishing second to the much quicker JACK BE GOOD at 1200 and 1400 metres, respectively, losing in driving finishes.

Lower claiming tag

Now going a mile, with no holding speed in the event, STRONG DELIVERY need only stay close enough to SPACESAVER, who is quick and has won as far as 1400 metres this season, beating TOUCHDOWN in March.

However, that was on a lower claiming tag, $380,000, and even though SPACESAVER was noted running on at 1000 metres straight behind TRIPLE ACCOUNT last Saturday, he should be reeled in by the Oneil Mullings-ridden STRONG DELIVERY in the stretch run.

Elsewhere on the card, the day's very first event is a Cup race, the one-mile L.R. 'Bob' Mayall Memorial for Graded Stakes runners, featuring two horses with topweight 60.5 kilos, CHADMAN and MAJOR MAYER.

Wayne DaCosta's CHADMAN, who bids for a fourth straight win after landing the Digicel Irish Jamaican Stakes on Derby Day, looks to be the horse to beat with Omar Walker aboard.

The six-year-old American has grown from strength to strength this season, whereas MAJOR MAYER has hit reverse since winning the Superstakes last November.

Meanwhile, GOOD CITIZEN, an impressive winner at 1200 metres in Overnight Allowance on Derby Day, looks good enough to repeat up in class when she takes on Open Allowance runners at what appears to be her pet distance.

Open Allowance

A three-year-old American-bred, GOOD CITIZEN won her third race from six starts rather impressively, coasting in under an idling Leo Miller to clock 1:12.4, and only had to be reminded she was in a race when TOBAGO tried to close inside the final half-furlong.

Stepping up to Open Allowance, she comes in pretty light with 48.0 kilos, accompanied by MUCHO GUSTO, who was also an Overnight Allowance winner on Derby Day. However, MUCHO GUSTO did not win as comfortable or as fast as GOOD CITIZEN, instead clocking 1:13.1, ridden out to catch RIO INFINITO.

GOOD CITIZEN looked in top condition last time out. Running for the first time out of trainer Donald McKenzie's barn, the filly proved her previous run was all wrong and looks ready to hold her own against the top sprinters.
