Gleaner Vendor Shirley Gayle is overcome with emotion after viewing the lifeless body of fellow newspaper vendor Dezreen Irvin, who was one of four people hit by a garbage truck while selling newspapers on the sidewalk adjacent to the St Andrew Parish Church on Hagley Park Road, Half-Way Tree, yesterday morning. The three other victims were taken to hospital.

Up to late yesterday, the police were still searching for the driver of the garbage truck which ran over and killed a newspaper vendor in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew hours earlier.

Three other people who were injured in the incident have been hospitalised, with one reported to be in serious condition.

Investigators say Aston Williams of a Kingston address is wanted for questioning in connection with the accident.

Dezreen Irvin, 49, was killed after 6:40 a.m. after she was hit by the truck, at the intersection of Hagley Park Road and Maxfield Avenue.

Irvin, a mother of six, was five months pregnant.

The police reported that the garbage truck was being driven along Hagley Park Road when it hit a Toyota Tacoma, which was travelling in the same direction.

According to the police, the impact caused the Tacoma to slam into a Honda motor car which was also heading to Half Way Tree.

The four women including Irvin, who were standing on the sidewalk were then hit by the garbage truck.
