  • Driving Deaf

I am not in support of the young man who states that the deaf should not obtain a driver's licence.

He needs to get educated as far as medical conditions are concerned; without that he will sound ignorant for the rest of his life.

People who are deaf can hear more than that individual with the help of a hearing aid.

That person that was involved in the collision as a result of loud music does not justify comparison with a deaf person's ability to drive. He was playing his music loud; he wasn't deaf, was he?

So, I guess he should be addressing playing loud music while driving, not driving while deaf, because I can tell he has no knowledge of how the deaf can live a normal life like he does.

  • ... Perfect drivers

I am completely deaf and have been since birth. I have driven since I was 16 years old and I am 52 years old. I have never caused an accident or got a speeding ticket.

Do you know that it has been proven that deaf people are better drivers than hearing people?

Like the example given, hearing people are always distracted by what they are hearing, radio, cellphones, MP3 players and a loud wife!

Deaf people are better drivers because they use their eyes more to compensate for not being able to hear.

I hope the writer will do research next time before writing such things. My wife is also deaf and a perfect driver all her life too.

  • Fear of crime

I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and have lived in Canada for over 30 years.

My children were all born in Canada and I would like to have them visit Jamaica, but I am so afraid because of the high crime rate. Many of us living in a foreign country will one day want to come back to our home but are so afraid.

Jamaica is a very beautiful island. I support stepping up measures to deter crimes. We may live abroad, but we love our island and would like to share it with our children. Love Jamaica always.
